Council Meeting

September 2022

Hello Ringwood!

I hope that this blog finds everyone well and getting back into the swing of another school year! Our council has been working very hard for our town. I have not had the opportunity to blog in a few months but I wanted to come on and give an update of some of the great things we have going on in our community. This year we began our Hometown Hero Banner initiative. Currently 60 forms have been submitted for our local vets! The banners will be displayed along our main roads beginning Memorial Day and will stay on display through Veteran’s Day. We are so excited to see our local heroes on display and cannot wait until the debut!

Beginning on September 26th, Milling and paving on Stonetown Rd, Yuma Rd, LeBoun Boulevard, Fieldstone Drive, Foxhill Lane, Stonewall Ct., and Black Rock Terrace will commence. We know that there are many roads in town that are in need of paving. As many know, the paving program was put on hold when the bond ordinance didn’t pass. For those of you that don’t know,  a bond ordinance requires a supermajority to pass. At that time, we had three Democrats on the council and they decided to make a political statement at the expense of forward progress. That delay caused the Borough a significant hardship because now paving expenses have increased. As a result, we have had to cut back on the roads to combat the soaring increases in asphalt. Elections always have consequences and that was a big one for our town.

Many of you have probably noticed a new traffic pattern at Skyline Lakes Drive. This was done after we completed a traffic study to try to reduce the weight limit on Skyline Lakes Drive. The weight limit restriction is currently pending DOT approval, however, the new traffic pattern that is in place will allow our residents to become familiar with the new setup and also help to prevent big trucks from passing through the lake community. Safety is always a priority and this council  will never waiver when it comes to the protection of our residents.

As a council we have also implemented our Healthy Lakes initiative. Some people argued for a septic pumping ordinance in our town. We took the stance that we would rather educate instead of mandate our residents. As a result, residents were able to learn about the importance of septic pumping, and gained an understanding about the use of phosphates, pesticides, and keeping grass and mulch away from the water's edge. All of which in turn, helps to maintain lake health throughout the borough. The Borough Manager reported at the council meeting that we have seen an increase in septic pumping which is a great thing. We hope that through continued education we will ensure the health of our beautiful lakes.

Councilwoman Kerr has taken the initiative in creating a Veterans’ Salute ceremony for our local veterans.  It will be held on Thursday, November 3rd at 6:00pm at the Ringwood Public Library.  All veterans and their families are welcome to attend.  There will be music, speakers, and light refreshments sponsored by the Ringwood Council.

As always, we are working for YOU and we are always caring for Ringwood!  Please do not ever hesitate to reach out to us!

Warm Regards,

Jaime Landis, Deputy Mayor

Michelle Kerr, Councilwoman
