January 23 2024 Council Meeting Blog

Hello Ringwood!

We hope your 2024 is off to a great start! Here are some updates from our meeting on January 23rd, 2024.

Proclamation:

  • The meeting started off recognizing Mayor Linda Schaefer’s 16 years of service on council. Assemblyman Webber, Bergen, and Auth were in attendance. Mayor Sean Noonan presented Schaefer with a beautiful clock with a description honoring her time and dedication to Ringwood. Thank you Mayor Schaefer for your steadfast dedication to our community!!

  • Former Councilman Speer was also supposed to be recognized, but he was under the weather.

Dates to Note:

  • Next council meeting is 2/20/24 at 7:30pm at Borough Hall.

  • St. Patrick’s Day Parade: March 23rd, 2024

Resolutions:

Resolution 2024-52

Purchase more salt for our DPW. We hold 600 tons of salt.  Passaic County is usually responsive when we need more, and we have 400 tons of shortage on order.  We would like to purchase more so our salt supply doesn’t get too low.

Attorney Report:

We have some small lots that are too little for a home to go on, but the Borough would like to sell these properties to adjacent property owners. Sold “as is” only!  Can’t be an independent lot.  Proration of property taxes.  Values were assessed by our tax assessor.  We are reviewing all of the properties.  We can generate more revenue here and get these properties back on the tax roll.  We have six properties on the list right now with two interested parties.

Manager’s Report:

Superfund site:

Some washouts occurred on the superfund site during the heavy rain recently. The erosion did not affect impacted soil. Currently they are ensuring that run off is addressed while the cap and the permanent retention basins are installed.

Work is happening to work with soil erosion.  Possible work will begin in March 2024. Full project will be completed in 2025.

New Law on Liquor Licenses:

Liquor license holders will no longer be able to pocket licenses for a prolonged period of time.  If a pocketed license has already been approved, they may remain pocketed for a term. New law begins on August 1st.

Lots of rain, snow, and ice this month.  If you have an issue, please report it.

Quarry was inspected on 1/23/24 and we are awaiting a report.  Hopefully we can get a trial date sometime soon.

Recreation:

New community center has many exercise/ sporting events.  Art program, theater groups, and basketball open gym for children and adults.  Parent waivers are needed for minors.  February Schedule on Rec Page.

More info on community center activities can be found here: http://www.ringwoodnj.net/content/5670/25642/default.aspx
